Heckler & Koch G3 Series
The real thing.

Barrel: 469mm
Length: 1040mm

HiCap: 500
This gun is a cannon!!!! It's long, too long for some and quite hefty too. It looks pretty realistic, though the grey receiver lets it down a bit. This is not a gun for use in buildings or thick woods etc. You need a little space to use this gun, but in this environment few AEGs can touch it. It's range and accuracy are very good, and the rate of fire will put a smile on your face.

The 500 round HiCap saves time and messing about in the field, the large battery goes in the stock and lasts all day, and the bipod is very useful both in combat and as a stand to keep it out of safe-zone mud. The fire selector can be easily operated but only caters for right handed users, and the sights are well made and useful too!! The grub screws keeping the flash-hider and outer barrel on come lose and the parts can be lost in the woods if the screws are not tightened regularly.

If you use squad tactics this is the ideal support weapon straight out of the box, or a TN barrel and scope will give you a long enough range to take on snipers or snipe yourself!! Personally, I use my SG as a field weapon, especially in defensive games where mobility is not an issue and it's range and accuracy can be put to good use. I'm over 6 foot tall, and the length of the SG suits me, but I can see how shorter shooters would find this gun unwieldy, so definitely handle one before you get one if you can.

There is not a huge selection of add-ons for the SG1. But scopes, longer barrels, metal parts and internal upgrades are all available. The meanest SG 1 I've seen about is Lee's from Wolf armouries; Sun Project M203, 3000 rnd C mag, and no end of internal trickery. See the pictures below....

Heckler and Koch G3 Series
Tokyo Marui's family of G3 assault rifle based AEGs provides a good selection of skirmish weapons in its self. The SG 1 has additional parts to make it a useful sniper/support weapon, the G3 A4 has a sliding stock giving it a very long barrel in a more compact package whilst the MC 51 is a very compact SMG version which shares many of the advantages of it's larger cousins. The Limited Edition HK 51 is no longer available new, but can be recreated using aftermarket custom parts.
The G3 A3 is the standard field weapon of the German army, and is the starting point for the G3 series. In terms of performance it is identical to the SG1 as detailed above, but lacks the SG1's bipod and cheekrest. The stock and foregrip are moulded in green ABS, and the foregrip is also a different, slimmer design than that used on the SG1 and G3 A4. The sliding end plate on the stock is shorter than the SG1's making this rifle slightly shorter and lighter than it's flashier cousin. The A3 lacks some of the 'creakiness' of the SG1, but shares in just about all of it's benefits. The A3 makes an excellent skirmish AEG with it's long barrel, large battery and 500 round hi cap mag. It has a reletively long range and a good rate of fire.
The G3 A4 is a special forces version of the G3 with a sliding stock. It has the same foregrip as the SG1 but lacks the bipod. The sliding stock means this AEG can  be much easier to move around with than the full length varients, but small batteries must be used as they go in the foregrip. Large batteries can be used if bagged externally, but the foregrip is very easy to remove to change batteries over, even in a game. The A4 offers a great combination of a long barrel in a quite compact AEG.

The MC 51 is known as the 'G3 Shorty' and it is one of my favourite AEGs. It uses the G3 receiver and A4 sliding stock with what is essentailly an MP5 front end. This means you get to use the 500 round G3 hi-caps in what is one of the shortest AEGs, and the barrel is longer than that in MP5s too. It is a near perfect combination, as it has a good range and rate of fire whilst being compact enough to use one handed, or in the smallest of spaces. I've fitted a First Factory foregrip on mine which will hold a large battery and I think it's chunkier look suits the design too.
The HK51 was produced as a limited edition by Tokyo Marui. It is based on the MC51 but has the stock from an SG1 fitted and a longer metal outer barrel over a longer inner barrel. The HK51 also comes fitted with the EG1000 motor, increasing rate of fire over the rest of the G3 range. Though the official model is no longer available it can be recreated using custom parts.
